CAMERA OBSCURA
DESIGNED BY ZEKE BERMAN

These portraits are made by students with a simple camera obscura, a precursor to the modern camera. The devise is set up in a dark room, (camera obscura). A magnifying glass is used to project an image on a piece of tracing paper. The subject poses behind the curtain and an image is formed. Photo paper, used as film, is put in place and exposed.  The paper is then developed, producing a negative image. This is contacted with fresh paper creating a positive.

As an alternative, the negatives can be scanned and reversed with Photoshop, creating a digital positive. The images on this site were made in this way.
